BY CAR OR BUS.

Because of the geographical position in the center of Europe, it is easy to reach Ljubljana by car or bus. If you consider taking the bus we recommend you to check out the offers by Flixbus. If you are traveling to Ljubljana from neighboring countries, we invite you to also check shuttle and bus providers GoOpti and Nomago.

BY TRAIN.

Ljubljana has direct railway connections with bigger cities in Austria, Germany, Croatia, and Hungary. These cities, in turn, have good international connections with all major European cities. Keep in mind that traveling to Slovenia by train from places further afield could be less comfortable or faster and not necessarily cheaper than air or bus travel.

BY AIR.

International Ljubljana Airport is located 20 minutes of car or bus ride north from the central railway and bus station. It offers direct and indirect air connections with major European and international airports. We recommend you to check the flight offers from your nearest airport to Ljubljana on Skyscanner. Keep in mind to check flights also to nearest neighboring airports in Graz, Klagenfurt, Zagreb, Venice or Trieste. From these airports, you can get to Ljubljana with a bus or shuttle (read the details above).

EU, EEA citizens and Swiss nationals.

Slovenia is a Schengen member state. Anyone entering Slovenia from within the Schengen area needs only a valid identification card. A national of another EEA Member State or Switzerland may enter the Republic of Slovenia with a valid identity card or passport, and does not require an entry permit (visa) or residence permit.

Third-country nationals.

A national of a third country who wishes to enter and reside in the Republic of Slovenia for the purposes of a tourist, business, personal or other type of visit should obtain a visa at a diplomatic mission or consular post of the Republic of Slovenia prior to their entering the country. Check the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia to see full details about entering Slovenia.

FRI Summer School participants can receive supporting documents for visa purposes (Letter of acceptance) upon request via email, but only after the full payment of the fees has been made. Letter of acceptance can only be issued for the official programme dates.

FRI Summer School will not assist you in obtaining a passport or visa. We advise you to begin the application process for obtaining a visa as early as possible. FRI Summer School cannot guarantee that you will receive a visa and cannot refund the course fee should your visa application be denied.

Persons from EU and EEA Member countries and Switzerland have free access to emergency or necessary healthcare services during their temporary residence in the Republic of Slovenia upon submission of evidence of their status: the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or a certificate as a substitute for EHIC that is issued by the competent state. This means that the doctor has to provide necessary healthcare services so that they do not have to return to their home country for medical care before the end of their intended stay in Slovenia.

Persons from countries with which the Republic of Slovenia has concluded a bilateral agreement on social insurance have free access only to emergency healthcare services in the Republic of Slovenia upon submission of evidence of their status. The Republic of Slovenia has concluded bilateral Social Insurance Agreements with the North Macedonia, Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Serbia, and Montenegro.

Access to health care services is free within the scope of compulsory health insurance, therefore some extra charges could be applicable. Persons with commercial (travel) insurance (for example Coris) must pay the cost for medical care and services directly and can request a refund from the commercial insurance company/provider.

LPP BUS.

To use the city buses you will need an Urbana value card, which you will need to top-up at »Urbanomats« (top-up machines) all around Ljubljana. It bears no name of the holder and it is transferable. It can be topped up with a credit of up to 50 €. You get free-of-charge switching of buses within 90 minutes from the time the first ride is paid for. You can use popular services like Google Maps to see bus routes and plan your trips.

BICIKE(LJ).

You can get a weekly subscription on widely spread and popular bike-sharing service. With a weekly subscription, you can use a bike as often as you want. The first hour of use is free of charge. After 60 minutes of use, you will need to pay a suitable hourly rate. Register online and use the sharing service with your Urbana card.

WALK.

Ljubljana is relatively small compared to most country capitals. Its monocentric urban spatial structure allows people living in Ljubljana to get almost anywhere by feet. It takes 15-20 minutes to walk from one side of the city centre to another or you can enjoy a 40-minutes walk through the Tivoli park to reach the Faculty of Computer Science from Prešeren Square.
